Matt received his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from the University of Michigan. He returned to his hometown to obtain his MD and PhD degrees at the University of Pittsburgh, where he did his thesis work with Dr. Xiao-lun Wu in the Department of Physics. He completed his residency training and clinical neurophysiology fellowship in the Department of Neurology at UCLA. Matt went on to do his postdoctoral training in the labs of Dr. Tom Otis at UCLA and Dr. Fred Gage at the Salk Institute before joining the faculty of the Department of Neurosciences at UCSD in 2016.
Stacy graduated from UCSD with a B.S. in Cognitive Science specializing in Neuroscience. She is interested in Systems Neuroscience and plans to pursue a Ph.D. in Neuroscience. She walks her fluffy dog Poro and likes to eat fried chicken when she is not in the lab.
Adrian graduated from UCSD with a B.S. in Cognitive & Behavioral Neuroscience. He is interested in Systems Neuroscience, and is currently investigating cytoarchitectural modifications in the mesial temporal lobe associated with mTLE. He plans on pursuing a Ph.D. in Neuroscience. When not in lab, Adrian enjoys backpacking, cooking, and learning about new tech.
Samir is a PhD student in the UCSD Bioengineering Department. He is mainly interested in designing new optical tools to study the brain in vivo. When not in the lab, Samir enjoys training for marathons and attempting to surf.
Shannon graduated from UCSD with a B.S. in Biochemistry and Cell Biology and is now working toward a Masters in Biology. She is interested in the pathophysiology of brain diseases and is currently investigating mechanisms underlying mesial temporal lobe epilepsy. Her plan is to attend medical school in 2019. In her free time, she enjoys hiking and trying new foods.
Joseph is a Master’s student in the lab, and is part of the BS/MS program in the UCSD Biology Department. He graduated with a B.S. in Biochemistry/Cell Biology in 2019. He is currently part of the glioblastoma and brain organoid projects in the lab. In his free time, Joseph enjoys scuba diving, swimming, and eating out with his friends.
Summer is an undergraduate student in the UCSD Bioengineering Department. She is interested in how the changes in the hippocampal dentate gyrus lead to temporal lobe epilepsy and developing medical devices. When not in lab, Summer enjoys trying new restaurants and watching Netflix.
Dev is a junior undergraduate studying Electrical Engineering at UCSD. He is interested in software solutions, automation control, and robotics. In his spare time, Dev enjoys playing basketball and learning to cook.
Achol is a junior majoring in Physiology and Neuroscience and minoring in Philosophy at UCSD. She is interested in studying learning and memory in the medial temporal lobe and its association with various neural disorders. In her free time, she enjoys exploring new places, finding new music and learning new languages.
Clyde is an undergraduate majoring in biophysics. He is interested in optics and microscopy. After graduation, Clyde plans to pursue a graduate degree in biophysics. In his free time, Clyde likes playing video games, cooking, and sleeping in.
Sharon is a fifth year undergraduate student from SDSU majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies. She is participating in the CIRM internship for the year and is in the lab working on the rAAV project. In her free time, Sharon loves traveling, eating, and being outdoors.
Cris is a senior majoring in physics at UCSD and interested in electronics, optics, and fundamental physics. Cris plans to pursue a Ph.D. in physics after graduation. When Cris is not in the lab he likes to cook with his girlfriend and listen to music.
